What is NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is an approach to enhancing communication and personal development.

In 1972, Richard Bandler and John Grinder modeled on the behaviour of highly effective and successful people so that we can recreate the same level of success in our own lives.

Their research resulted in a collection of techniques which allow us to be able to “re-wire” the brain so that we can change our behaviour and performance through creating new beliefs and choices. This thereby offers us the ability to live life with more positive outcomes, more often, and through choice and repetition our new behaviour and increased level of performance is achieved. This “rewiring” process is called Neuroplasticity (Brain Training).

NLP specifically focuses on the connection between 3 key areas and how each of these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life.

  • Neuro refers to our mind and how we think and our physiology (Nervous system) through which our experience is processed. We use our 5 senses to gather this information i.e. Visual (seeing), Auditory (hearing), Kinaesthetic (feeling), Olfactory (smelling) & Gustatory (tasting).

  • Linguistic refers to the verbal (words) and non-verbal (postures, gestures & habits) communication system we use and how our brain interprets these communication signals.

  • Programming is how we put these sensory representations and language together. The result of which drive us to the actions we take to achieve our desired outcome. These thoughts, feelings and actions are our habitual programmes.

The beauty of NLP techniques is that they can often work on a "content or discussion-free" process, thereby allowing us to connect with your subconscious and tap into your true beliefs and behaviour without telling the story we want others to hear.

If you are interested in choosing how you want to behave, perform and live then NLP is for you.
